About getting started

Postby singoal » Tue Apr 23, 2013 12:56 pm

Hello!
I follow the instructions of "getting started", and make sure that the steps 1-4 are correctly finished.
Also, I can ping to "http://chrome.angrybirds.com".
However, there is nothing loaded in step 5.

Is there someone else, who encountered such a problem?

It's very grateful for some solutions to this problem.

The website is okay. You may want to check if your network is opened to every website. This one in particular may be forbidden since it's recreational.

Singoal, did you manage to get access to chrome.angrybirds.com?

Is anyone else having similar problems that cannot be resolved by talking to your local IT support?

Hi, Jochen, I'd like to remind you that chrome.angrybirds.com is forbidden by GFW in China, because it requires some resources from google(and some services of google are always forbidden). Fortunately, we can easily solve the problem by changing the hosts. Maybe this message would be helpful when you come to China:)

Hi Zhang,

thank you for pointing that out. Yes, we are aware of this problem. What do you mean by changing the host?

Regards,
Jochen

I mean the hosts file(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file) that maps IP addresses and domains. We can add the map(2404:6800:4005:c00::8d r45-dot-latest-dot-project-slingshot-hr.appspot.com) to make browser to visit IPV6 address instead of IPV4. IPV6 hasn't been forbidden by the GFW by now.

The chrome website of the game: http://chrome.angrybirds.com/ has been discontinued. It seems that the website was discontinued before the competition. How did you play the software if that was the case? is there an alternative to continue developing and testing agent software for angry birds that do not require that site?

Hi, when the website was still available there was the option to download the game and to play offline.
All our competition computers are not connected to the internet, hence the game can still be played offline as before.

We are currently discussing with Rovio if there is a simple solution to this problem that we can offer to competition particcipants.
